The tank is a beast of a tank August 6, 2008

So we drove to North Kansas City this evening and $180 later we had a 55 gallon tank, the stand, filter, lights, chemicals, heater, 8 fish including kissy fish and angel fish, and so much more. Real world value would probably be closer to $1000 for all of this, so holy cow I’m still a bit stunned. No pictures yet, but soon. I’m not sure all the fish will make it because they had a rather bumpy ride here. My husband doesn’t quite get the whole fish should not be shaken OR stirred because they are 1- living creatures and 2- they’re not a martini.

Here it is folks!

Why does my brain decide to kick in at 7 AM? August 6, 2008

Well I ended up not getting that sewing machine as of yet. I’m still considering it, but my conscious mind keeps going back and forth over the I don’t really need it versus its a good deal argument. On the deal side is, I could buy it cheap, use it for a while, and sell it for more, making a profit which’d be nice cuz its tot’s def worth it (and that bad valley girl speak is a nod to a Blue Collar comedy sketch) but the don’t really need it side says loud and clear, “where ya gonna put it huh, huh?” in a most loud and obnoxious voice. Well aparently this inner turmoil goes even deeper because this morning I was rudely awakened from my sleep at 7 by myself getting pissed off with a capital P….. at an imaginary clerk in a dream.

I was dreaming that I had run through the Brass Armadillo (the store) looking for the machine, found it, gone to the desk swerving around dozens of other shoppers, only to be told by two very unhelpful cashiers that I had overslept obviously because they only sold things till noon. “Maybe if you hadn’t been so lazy and you’d gotten here an hour ago, you could have bought it,” they taunted. So I’m very upset at this point, and then another customer comes up who they know and low and behold so do I– another former Wal Mart employee who I actually saw in real life yesterday at Chuck E Cheese’s. (nephew’s 3rd birthday party) Anywhoo they all say hi to her and start ringing her up and I’m like WTF? so I tell her whats going on and ask them through gritted teeth to call a manager despite their to ring me up now. And then I woke up. Herm… if thats not a clear message, then …. well actually its not really. Its just as jumbled as the real time indecision. Oh well.

We are on the other hand buying a very nice 2 y/o 55 gallon aquarium and stand and its going to be my pride and joy. I had a small 10 gallon tank last year, and loved it but had to give the feeshies away when we moved temporarily to Mexico.

If I’d known we’d be back so soon, I would have just had somebody fish sit, but even then I was dreaming of a tank big enough for my clown loaches to swim and grow freely. So now I’m in the process of haggling over one on Craigslist and I can’t wait to pick it up, get it cycled and add some fish babies to it. A sometimes little known fact is that Betta’s (those beautiful fighter fish)

are only territorial to their own kind. Which means that you can keep one male or several females in with your regular fish. I had a lurvely crowntail named Narcisuss who just made my day. He would come over and preen at the front of the tank whenever I sat down to watch. Ahh those were the days. So thats my next mission. Get the soothing sounds of a fish tank, and a big one at that, tinkling through the house again is top priority.
