Well not necessarily, but I’m getting awfully close to switching over to duhn duhn duhnnnn the democratic vote for at least this election. I might even go so far as to register- something I haven’t done since I turned 18 in 2004. Now I know someone out there somewhere is giving me the stink eye about being a female and not excercising my hard earned right to vote, but honestly? Its my hard earned right to CHOOSE to vote. And I have chosen not to up till now because I was too busy trying to keep my head afloat to pay any attention to which politician’s smear campaign was less bad than the other one’s. I did not vote in the 2004 presidential elections because I could not decide which was the lesser evil. I was raised in a conservative family and I am what I call a liberal conservative. My mother is a lesbian so you can imagine maybe where I would stand on the idea of gay marriages. My father was in the army for 10 long years so maybe you can also see where my heart is on matters related to how the military is being treated in this country at this time. I’m not going to go all political on you guys because thats not me and I would never force my beliefs down anyone else’s throat. Rather I discuss them with my close family, and two very dear friends who for all the liberal upbringing we had going to school together in Northern California have somehow ended up with views similar to mine. They are the only people who know how I really feel about Bush, Obama, Clinton, and McCain.
Having said all that, I still feel it is time for a change in this country. We as Americans are afraid of change and have been for years. Change can be bad, but it can also be life saving. To me it feels like this country is dying and it is going to need a serious change in order to survive. People who should have no power are making all the decisions and leaving the powerless to suffer for them. When a man tries to pass a law saying that birth control pills constitute abortion and tries to ban them, I say over my dead body fella. When a man says that abortion is always 100 percent wrong, there is a part of me who sneaks in and agrees with him, but I’m pretty sure that part is my father and my grandparents and not the woman in me who says, there are circumstances where it is necessary. When a man cannot remember how many houses he has (7?!) I feel that maybe he needs to reevaluate his reason for running for presidency in the first place. As a young wife to a working class man, I am beginning to believe that Obama being as young as he is may not be the worst thing in the world. He’s still young enough that he hasn’t forgotten what its like to be broke trying to make to the next paycheck just to have it gone in 3 days to bills and groceries.
I will watch the Republican convention. I always like to hear both sides of the story. However, for this year at least, I have a feeling I will be switching sides. Sorry for all the politics on my happy little blog. Next time I’m on, it will probably be business as usual.
