Pregnancy Brain

Sucks! Seriously- its not something pregnant woman talk about to the uninitiated either. Well I’m breaking the silence. First it starts innocuously enough- two people start to talk at the same time and you let the other person go first. By the time their done talking you’ve forgotten what you were going to say. Walking into a room for lotion for your winter chapped hands and forgetting what you were there for, but remembering when you get a drink of water from the sink (water=hydration=geez I wish my hands weren’t so dry=oh yeah! lotion!)

But then it starts to get worse. Cooking a ham on Thanksgiving with every intention of saving the bone for soup. Waking up from a reverie to realize you just threw the ham bone away and you don’t want to be gross and dig it back  out of the trash even tho it just landed on some cardboard. Walking into a room and forgetting what you were there for and then forgetting what you were doing before you got there, making it impossible to go back to what you were doing before the memory lapse. Getting on the computer to look something up, forgetting by the time you have the laptop open what you were going to look up, and two days later you still have no idea what you needed to look up. All that’s left is the nagging sense that its important.

This is my life over the last two weeks. Its funny, but really its not. I mean I know sleep deprivation is coming for me and that will lead to lots of forgetfulness, but I really wasn’t anticipating the joys of losing brain cells and its rough. *sighs*

Big News!

Life has caught up with me once again- the last you heard from me I was busy with planning Thanksgiving and getting assignments done for class. The picture above was my art assignment for this week and it has a story behind it. This week we studied Expressionism and although I’ve never been a big fan of Picasso and his contemporaries, there’s something to be said for the amount of emotion their work… well… expressed. An artist I had never heard of, Kathe Kollwitz, really struck a chord with me this week and I chose her work as an inspiration for my own piece. (our assignment every week is to create a piece of art using any medium based on something we’ve studied that week)

The picture above is introspective- looking down on top of the body (a self portrait) one arm outstretched, the other curved protectively around my belly. The reason? I just found out last Monday that I’m pregnant and boy if that doesn’t bring on the heavy introspection, I don’t know what will. There are nerves galore- will everything be okay? Do I really get to keep this baby? These things are on repeat in my mind almost non-stop as background noise, but they are mostly drowned out by happier thoughts- I hope its a girl, but I’d be okay with a boy if my husband would just pick a boy’s name he’s okay with. (he actually wants a girl too- lucky me 🙂 ) I can’t wait to decorate the nursery although packing all my craft stuff up is daunting- I have a whole room full and overflowing with stuff that I absolutely cannot part with so a trip to the store for storage tubs is high on the agenda before I can do much else.

I have plenty of time- I’m not even 6 weeks along if things are as I think they are (although AF last month was weird and late so I suppose I could be closer to almost 1o weeks along instead of almost 6 but I don’t think that’s the case. Either way I’ll find out more when I have my doctor’s appointment next Monday (a whole ‘nother week seems interminably long!)

As busy as I’ve been, I’ve officially gone into overload. I will be cutting out the vow renewal ceremony- I can’t really concentrate on anything other than baby right now and I don’t want to try and fit my 4 or 5 month pregnant self into a wedding dress here in a couple of months- it just doesn’t seem that important any more, but we do still have plans to do that someday. (can’t let that $13oo dress go to waste after all!)

So that’s my news- big news at that 🙂

Whats going on in your worlds?

To Post or Not to Post

I really spend way too much time on the computer so for today, I’m just going to pop in real quick and say “hi” before running off to do some sewing, then maybe some knitting, followed sadly by a bunch of cleaning. My house post-party always looks a bit tornado-esque and the kitchen is in serious need of dish cleansing and spatter removal. The microwave was used by teenagers and has unidentified spots in it as well that make me a bit nervous.

I’m working on floor cushions to  alleviate some of the discomfort brought on by sitting on the floor for our Apples to Apples games around the holidays.

The first one (and please pardon the bad cell pics- too lazy to break out the big beast which I know is unforgivable but there you have it) is finished and I have pieces for 3 more cut out.

It’s huge and used 2 pillow cases plus a whole bag of stuffing, but its surprisingly comfy. The next two will be reversed- the long points in the middle and the short points out to allow for a bigger sitting surface, but I really like the way this one supports your legs.

Knitting projects will be updated here as I have the time. My Survey of Modern and Contemporary Arts class keeps me fairly busy, but writing lengthy papers that say little is an art I’ve perfected as a blogger 😉

Egads! Halloween has come and gone

And I totally didn’t get anything posted. I was so busy this year with school assignments (building my very own website!) and family stuff that I really didn’t have time to do a whole lot of Halloween-y stuff. I did get my costume made and I’ll have to get some pictures posted at some point that show the whole thing. I made a Dopey costume for a friend’s little boy and he looked so cute during the initial try-on. I hope to see some pictures of him in the full outfit soon. I helped not one but two of my sister in laws learn to sew so they could put together their own costumes. I also planned our party and this year we did something different and fun. We took cues from the popular game series Left 4 Dead and created our own zombie walk/run. We took our guests through our field to meet up with Jarell but to get there they had to make it safely past our zombies. A good time was had by all and I’m already looking forward to next year when we can do it all over again.

A few pictures for your viewing pleasure 🙂
